My Story
I had been suffering for about two years from acid reflux disease and weight loss. My stomach and esophagus were so irritated that I could hardly sleep. I visited four different doctors for relief. My internist prescribed Prilosec for my stomach and Fisomax (please correct the spelling) for my osteopinea. My gastroenterologist prescribed Nexium and even gave me free samples of the medication. He also prescribed Align, a wheat based product. He diagnosed me with irritable bowel syndrome. My acupuncturist also me some herbs. None of these medications helped me. I continued to experience pain and sleepless nights. As a last resort, I decided to see my chiropractor, Dr. Francis DiLorio. He told me that he couldn't help me, but he suggested that I see Dr. Tom O'Bryan.
I entered Dr. O'Bryan's office. He took one look at me and told me to stop taking Prilosec, Fisomax and Nexium. He ran some tests and told me to stop eating sugar, wheat, gluten and dairy products. He discovered that my body was depleted of zinc, iodine, vitamin C and a host of other essential minerals. He prescribed Cal Matrix, zinc, vitamin C, traumeric, vitamin B, Zinlori 75 and Metagenics ultraclear plus.
He also prescribed orthodigestzyme for leaky gut and told me to drink plenty of water.
I followed Dr. O'Byran's recommendations. I began feeling better in three days. After two years of following this regime, I am completely symptom free. My recent overall "Wellscore" was a "1" indicating completely normal values for white and red blood cell counts, hemoglobin, hematocrit, MCV, MCH, MCHC, RDW, platelet count, glucose, BUN, Creatinine, eGFR, sodium, potassium, chloride, magnesium, calcium, phosphorus, total protein, albumin, total bilirubin, akaline phosphatase, LD, GGT, AST, ALT, uric acid, Thyroxine, iron, triglycerides, total cholesterol, chol/HDL ration, HDL cholesterol, and homocysteine, P/S. My LDL of 124 was a little high.
Prior to seeing Dr. O'Bryan, my wellness score was a "2" indicating my results were out of range. My homocysteine level was seriously out of range.
When I recently visited my internist, I brought all of my supplements to her office so she would know what I was taking. She looked at my wellness score and asked my why I was taking the supplements. She told me that I was in very good health and that I didn't need the supplements. I tried to explain to her that the reason I was in good health was because of my diet and the supplements. She didn't seem to "get it". I will be changing internists.
When I visited my gastroenterologist, I told him that I was feeling better. He said that I was feeling better because I changed my diet. He didn't seem to think that the diet change was necessary.
It is tragic that most doctors are unaware of the latest research about diet and supplements and how they can help their patients. They seem eager to prescribe a pill and whisk their patients out of the office.
Dr. O'Bryan's recommendations have probably added years to my life. I am 57 years old. I feel great and I am extremely fortunate to have found this incredible doctor. I owe him so much.
I would be happy to share my name and experience with others.

Hi Dr. Tom,
First of all, thank you Dr. Thomas O'Bryan for all your hard work and research that has led me down the right path to wellness!
My name is Julia Orlandi, I am 46 years old and during the last 4 years I have encountered the most incredible stress in my life. These stresses surpassed all the stress in my whole life put together! As I was recovering from all of this stress, I noticed that I felt depressed, was always tired and in a lot of pain, mostly back pain, however, also generalized pain all over my body. I had diarrhea 3-4 times per week as well. I became so fatigued, that I asked my doctor to take me off work for a while so as to try to recuperate.
During this time off, I only became worse! Over a period of only 2-3 weeks. I was more tired, sore and achy all over, would crash after eating etc.... Then I developed even more new symptoms, including tachycardia up to the 140's, shaking all over, hard time breathing during the rapid heart rate episodes, ataxia and peripheral neuropathy. I also started to get headaches, (unusual for me) and I was basically housebound. I saw at least 5 different specialists and no could figure out what was wrong with me. I was told I had fibromyalgia, erosions in my intestines, irritable bowel syndrome and that I may have cancer! I was also told that I just have anxiety (rapid heart rate and shakiness). I kept telling everyone that this only happens after I eat and that after a few hours the symptoms would go away - the rapid heart rate and the hard time breathing and feeling like I couldn't even get off the bed or couch. I went to the emergency room during one of the episodes, as I was becoming worried that my heart was becoming damaged, they sent me home with a diagnosis of "Tachycardia of unknown origin". No one seemed to connect that I was having this happen after I eat. Everything came on so fast that it never crossed my mind that I may be allergic to something.
My immune system was stressed from all of the prior stresses in last few years and then my nervous system began to break down.
I am a nurse by trade and I thought to myself, if this is only happening after I eat, then it must have something to do with something I am eating. So I stopped eating anything at all for two days and just drank a lot of water and de-caf tea with a little honey. I did this out of fear of another attack and also just to see what would happen. My symptoms improved and I figured I was onto something. I then went by the neurologist's office to say hi to the secretary (she is a friend of mine) and she asked me if I was doing any better and I said "no, no one seems to know what is going on". She then told me that they had just had a patient with very similar symptoms as mine and that the patient was allergic to gluten. My mom and brother have gluten intolerance and I thought wow, maybe that is it, after all, it is hereditary! I then removed all gluten products. Within several days I felt incredibly better, it was like a miracle happened!
Then I went to a chiropractor who also does allergy testing. She is the person who loaned me the DVD, entitled "Unlocking the Mystery of Wheat and Gluten Intolerance". I just went in to give my back a tune up due to some prior injuries, and she tested me for wheat, corn, dairy, and soy. The corn came back ok, but not the rest. So I modified my diet even further and started feeling even better, by three weeks I was nearly symptom free, except for the aftermath of having my body go through all of stress from my nervous system as well as the constant daily tachycardia. I am still working out what I am actually allergic to, so I can have as much flexibility in my diet as possible as this is a life style changing event, which is hard to get used to. I now eat mostly meat and vegetables and nuts and dried fruit. I also have a neighbor who has fresh goats milk and I have learned to make my own fresh goat cheese, sour cream and various other recipes which have helped tremendously.
I took the ELISA allergy test and the gluten, wheat and soy did not show up, but eggs showed up as a really high allergen, then milk and beef were right behind as significant allergens. From what I have researched, the wheat and gluten don't always show up, however the soy should have, so I am confused about the soy products. I know that soy is not the best protein, however, it is used in many different cooking techniques. Because the eggs came up really high on the test and everything has eggs in it, including bread, I thought maybe all of this is from the eggs, so maybe the eggs are the true allergen. These are the things I am still working out. All I do know is that gluten is the first thing I removed and I did improve. I no longer have the tachycardia, ataxia, diarrhea, sweating and overall feeling of malaise, this was after only 1 week of the diet without the foods mentioned above.
The allergist (MD) is also doing the tTG, IgA, IgG, and the anti-gliadin antibody test, which the gastroenterologist did not do. (I am still waiting for those results.) He only did the biopsies, which as is stated in much of the research, does not show up until much later. Unfortunately, I had been off of the gluten for approx. 4 weeks, so the tests may show a false negative. In my opinion, they don't really matter, as after going gluten free, I have been feeling so much better.
For those of you out there who have weird symptoms that your doctors can't seem to get a grip on, try going gluten free. It can't hurt you and may be the answer to many, if not all of your health problems.
Sincerely,
Julia
